Undergraduate courses

  • At Cambridge, the undergraduate course is called the Computer Science Tripos. It is a three-year or four-year course. Students graduating after three years receive the BA honours degree. Students achieving a high standard in the third year can stay for a fourth year and receive both the BA and Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees.
  • In-person Open Days take place on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 July 2024, offering an opportunity to visit this Department, meet students and staff here and attend a sample lecture. Alongside these Open Days, the University will run Warm-Up Webinars, covering topics such as applying to Cambridge, how to pick your College and financial support available during your studies. Places must be booked in advance. You can book your place here.
  • There will also be a smaller University Open Day on Friday 13 September 2024.

  • The PhD is the primary research degree that can be taken in the Computer Laboratory. The Cambridge PhD is a three-year programme of individual research on a topic agreed by the student and the Laboratory, under the guidance of a staff member as the student's supervisor. There is no compulsory coursework, and students are expected to complete the substance of their research by the end of their third year, submitting their thesis then or within a few months.
